Top 5 Most Comfortable Shoes for Nurses

Top 5 Most Comfortable Shoes for Nurses

Hello Loves!

You’re probably looking for some brands to help save your feet! I hope this post helps you find the right shoes to get you through your shift.

When I first started 12-hour shifts as a tech, i though “my Nikes should be good to go.” Let me just say that I was pretty active back then and running shoes was all I had and knew. I went through nursing school and clinicals with my running shoes and figured that I would continue using them as I started working at the hospital.

No offense to Nike or any other running shoe brand, but I was definitely wrong in the long run. If I had known that there are shoes specifically for nurses out there, I would’ve invested much earlier in my career. Do not be like me who went on for months trying to withstand the pain through my shifts. Get foot support as early as possible!

Before I start, I’d like to mention that there are so many options out there and by no means am I an expert. The biggest factor for me personally is arch support so I like to find shoes that does just that. If you’re finding that it has been difficult to find the right shoes for you to withstand the long hours of standing or running back and forth, it may be best to visit a foot specialist that can help you get customized padding for any shoes you purchase. This is ultimately the best option to minimize any form of foot discomfort.

But for now, let’s just say you’re here simply reading about a few different options to find cute, inexpensive nursing shoes and I hope I can help! Without having to lengthen this post, let’s get started!

Dansko - Women’s Professional Clog

Price: varies $129-$170

I have been wearing Dansko for years, especially during my floor days. There are multiple multiple designs to satisfy any individual’s taste. I personally went with classic colors such as black or brown leather, however, if you’re into colorful or fun designs… Dansko definitely has it! They even have shoes that have matte or glossy finishes. At the same time, the price is definitely suitable, but may be expensive compared to other comfortable shoes. I can guarantee that the investment can last your for years for sure. I also like to add that if you’re short like me who’s 5 foot even, this shoe adds about 2-3 inches in height! Lol!

Despite of my love for these shoes, I have heard from some of my nursing colleagues that this shoe is not best for those that are flat footed. I personally have a high foot arch and this shoe does fit my arch accordingly.

I personally own the one above and a black ones. I just purchased

Dansko - Women’s Brenna Tan Slip On Clog

I don’t personally own one but this one in particular is on its way to me. I have decided to switch up the Dansko that I’ve been for years due to wear and tear and have decided to go with this Tan Slip on. I have read endless reviews that the arch support is awesome so wanting to try these out. I also love the color!

Alegria

Price: varies from $50-$140

I personally do not own one, but I have read some reviews extensively during my own search for the right shoes. This may sound bad, but despite of the great reviews I read through, I just was not a fan of the show’s look. If you’re looking for comfort and not design, this shoe may fit just what you need. Like Dansko, they have multiple designs… sneakers, clogs, sandals and so much more. For the purpose of this post, I would recommend only looking at their clogs especially in the hospital environment.

According to some colleagues, it takes a few days to get adjusted depending on your arch support. Some found it immediately comfortable, but felt like they had to upsize due to the build of the shoe.

Crocs

Prices: varies

I absolutely love my zebra crocs as shown in the picture above and below.. On the comfort spectrum, this is definitely #1 and there is no doubt about it. During my pregnancy, I outgrew my Dansko due to some swelling of the feet and boy I was in so much pain. I definitely didn’t want to buy larger Danskos just knowing that my swelling was going to go away after the pregnancy, so I wanted something comfortable and inexpensive. A lot of our nurses recommended for me to buy them and I love them so much!

New Balances or Running Shoes

Price: varies

If you’re a runner, you may find comfort in your running shoes especially if you’re used to running long distances on a daily basis. If you’re not used to running or at least being used to standing up in sneakers for long periods, do not be surprised that the shoes that you work out with may not be as comfortable as you once thought. If that is the case, look for running shoes with foot padding for your arch. I personally love New Balances. They have great arch support and stylish at the same time!

Hope you all enjoyed this quick blog on my personal reviews and my recommendations for comfortable shoes for nurses!

Happy Nursing!
