Amazon Products for Nursing Clinicals

Hello loves!

Nursing clinicals can be so stressful especially when you don’t have everything you need to succeed. Depending on which semester you’re in, the needs of the products that I mention can vary, but I can guarantee that you will need at least most of it, if not all, to function successfully.

If you’re reading this post, you’re probably trying to figure out what you need for your first day or just trying to find how you can excel. Well you’ve come to the right place!

In this post, I will personally recommend the products that I have used in all my clinicals which will not be limited to must have necessities, accessories, and books.

  1. Stethoscope

This should be a no brainer! You definitely need to invest in a good stethoscope that can last you till you get to your first nursing job. My very first stethoscope was a Littman, but I decided to go with a brand a bit more aesthetically pleasing. I love my MDF Stethoscope. I used this stethoscope all throughout my nursing career and still use it today for my Family Nurse Practitioner program.

There are definitely more brands out there and better versions of what I mentioned. See this MDF stethoscope for Cardiology in Rose Gold - click here!

If you’re interested in more stethoscopes, read my article on the Top 5 Stethoscopes and my personal reviews on them.

2. Penlight

Your institution may have provided you with a penlight to perform eye examinations. Again, I am a person who looks for things to be aesthetically pleasing so I bought a rose gold penlight. It is made out of metal therefore it is durable and sturdy. It also has a pupil measurement reference like most penlights. A simple penlight will do but why not make it look cute when you’re doing an eye exam?! Lol!

But since I have transitioned and currently in a Family Nurse Practitioner program, I have switched over to use an otoscope/opthalmoscope set by ZYREV. It comes with a Snellen eye chart, otoscope, and opthalmoscope.

3. Badge Reel with Reference cards

You will definitely need a badge reel to hold your IDs and reference cards. You can easily just pull out your reference card if you ever need to quickly look up your normal lab values, policies, etc.

I personally use a heavy duty badge real that can hold many cards and keys. This will last you a long time!

4. Clipboard

You will need a clipboard to hold all of the assignment papers you have to complete before the end of your shift. Remember you will have assessment sheets and care plans that you may end up having to carry around to take notes in.

I personally used a clipboard that opens and closes like a book so that I can easily store it in my scrub pants pocket. I know some of my colleagues have used the ones that is able to store a lot of paper inside. Honestly, a simple clipboard will do the job.

5. Pulse Oximetry

This may not be necessary as the hospital usually have their own dynamaps and pulse oximetry, in which they actually prefer for you to use rather than using your own. However, it is just as accurate and is quite small that carrying this extra gadget shouldn’t take up any space. This can even be used for emergency situations, therefore, I personally recommend carrying one in any clinical setting.

6. Assessment Sheet

A good assessment sheet will last you a long time so I personally ally recommend for you to get comfortable with an assessment sheet now while you’re still studying. I made my own assessment sheet that worked with my medical-surgical brain. Click here to download!

7. Nurse Pocket Books

You will need so many pocket books that it’s not even funny. I personally recommend having a clinical pocket guide for every specialty. For example, if you’re in psychiatry, you should have a pocket guide for that.

You will also need a pocket drug book and a pocket care plan book. See below of the ones I used all throughout my nursing clinical experience. I tried my very best to insert the latest edition so that everything is up to date.

Hope you all enjoyed this post!

Happy Nursing!

Sincerely,

Dominique Qoraichi, BSN, RN
